Family Support at MDUMC
MDUMC offers a number of special programs, including:
AA Group for Women & Gratitude in Action Meeting for Men and Women
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship where members can share their experiences, strength and hope to help solve their common problem. There are no dues or fees for membership. The primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. MDUMC supports these programs by providing a place for people to meet and find the support they need. The women's group meets every Monday in Room D216 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Childcare is provided. The Gratitude in Action meetings are open to men and women and meet on Monday evenings from 7:00–9:00 p.m. in Room D127. Both of these meeting rooms are located in the Family Life Center which is accessible from the east parking lot. For information, contact Franklin Olson at 713/468-8356 or at

Al-Anon
Al-Anon is an ongoing twelve-step fellowship providing support and help to those who live with someone who has alcohol or drug dependencies. Anyone whose life has been affected by a family member’s drinking is eligible for membership. If interested, you may attend weekly meetings at no charge each Thursday evening from 8:00–9:00 p.m. in Room D222 in the Family Life Center. Chronic Pain/Illness Support Group
It is an on-going group that meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 1:30–3:00 p.m. They gather at the Connection Center which is located west of the church at 13194 Memorial Drive (about 600 yards west of the church on the right). The group focuses on prayer, meditation, information and peer support. It is open to the community at no charge. For information, contact Franklin Olson at 713/468-8356 ext. 114 or

Financial Peace UniversityThis 13-week course designed by a nationally-known financial planner has helped thousands of individuals and families get out of debt and begin to be financially independent. This video-based program helps persons do the following: step-by-step how to get out of debt, how to put together a spending plan that really works, develop an emergency fund, the secret of improving your marriage, the blessings of giving and much more.

NAMI West Houston Monthly Meetings
The mission of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is to eradicate mental illness and improve the quality of life of those (children/teens/adults) affected by these diseases. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots non-profit mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families. The NAMI West Houston chapter has monthly meetings for families dealing with a mental disorder. These meetings bring together experts in various fields of medicine, law, benefits, insurance, behavior and more to help families overcome the effects of these illnesses.
All classes meet on the third Monday of each month. The group meets in Room D126 from 7:00–9:00 p.m. This room is next to the elevator in the Family Life Center. We recommend you park in the east parking lot and enter through the Family Life Center doors. There is no charge for attending these meetings. NAMI West Houston Family Class
This 12-week program covers many aspects of caring for a person with a major brain disorder such as bipolar, depression, schizophrenia and panic disorder. It will help you acquire strategies for handling crises and relapse, problem solving and will give you guidance to support and services within your community. Classes are free and materials are provided by NAMI, a national organization.
The West Houston Family Class meets on Wednesdays in Rooms CC460 & 461 at The Connection Center campus. The Fall session will begin on September 10th and end on December 3rd from 6:30–9:00 p.m. The Connection Center is located at 13194 Memorial Drive (about 600 yards west of the church on the right). Pre-Marriage SeminarsMembers of MDUMC and non-members who are planning a wedding in 2008 are invited to attend a pre-marriage seminar lead by members of our ministry staff. The one-day seminar will be held at the church (lunch is provided). The seminar reviews such subjects as: love, forgiveness, communication, mutual respect, family concerns and finances.
The two remaining seminars for this year are on Saturday, July 26th and Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. in Room D127. There is a fee of $15 for non-members.
