What is CatalYst?
CatalYst is a Young Adult Program at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. We consider “Young Adults” to be folks in their 20’s and 30’s. In addition to our group for Young Adults for marrieds and singles, we just started a brand new group for Young Adults with children. We get together as often as possible for Bible study, mission trips, social events and just plain fun! Please look through our webpage and let us know if you have questions. Be sure to check our monthly calendar that you that you can join us next time!
Upcoming Activities
On Friday July 4th come out to the Connection Center and join us for a free Fireworks show! The group is meeting up around 7:30 pm to volunteer a few extra hands to make sure everything goes right. We'll be helping with the cotton candy machine, the popcorn machine and the sno-cone machine. Then, we'll all sit together to watch the show! No need to RSVP so just come out out!
On Saturday, July 12 at 6:00 pm, we're all going to get together for a cook-out! There'll be burgers, hotdogs and sausages hot off the grill so come hungry. Lemonade, water and soft drinks will be provided for you, so all you have to do is bring a $5.00 donation to help offset the food costs. Its going to be TONS of fun so please come! RSVP to Collin by Friday, July 11th. His e-mail is above...
Mid-Week Bible Study
Our bible study is really more of a book study. We study books that we read together as a group, and then discuss them. Sometimes the book we talk about is a book on one of the books of the Bible, and sometimes it has a general Christian theme. But you'll always come away with practical knowledge about the Bible and you'll ALWAYS have fun!
This group meets every Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Connection Center. Click here for directions to the Connection Center. Under the covered area (at the west end, next to TJ MAXX) you'll see a glass door that says "Senior Center." That's where we meet so, come on in. We usually have 10 to 15 folks that show up on an every week basis. I hope you'll join us this Wednesday!
Sunday School
Our Sunday school class meets at the church every Sunday at 9:30 am in room D221, which is upstairs near the elevator. We generally meet until 10:20 and we'll have 6 or 8 people on any given Sunday morning, though sometimes several more. Our topics range from a verse by verse study of a book of the Bible to topical themes of the Bible (such as "The Disciples" or "Women of the Bible"). Every time you come, you will have opened your Bible and read several verses, but if you don't have a Bible we have several extras in the room. Donuts and coffee are always a part of the morning!
Missions
Every third Saturday of every month, we take time to serve others. We usually meet around 8:15 am at the church and arrive back at the church by 1:30 pm. Past trips have included going to the Houston Food Bank, The House of Amos, and Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM). Every other year, we take a major mission trip that lasts up to 6 days.
Social Opportunities
We are serious about having fun and the City of Houston is a great place that offers wonderful opportunities! On the last Friday or Saturday of the month, we gather to go bowling, go to dinner, grab a movie or just hang out at a member's house. Future social events include an all day sailing trip in Kemah, a trip to the Museum District and maybe even the Zoo! Sometimes these events cost money and sometimes they don't, but all are welcome all the time! Contact Collin Taylor, collintaylor@mdumc.org, for more information.
