Mission Trips
Do you ever feel that nagging to
explore… search for more… seek adventure? Few things can match the feeling you
get when you couple a seeking heart with your desire to answer God's call to
serve our neighbors around the world!
And now is the time to get
involved in an MDUMC mission team! Come join with a like minded group of people
who love to travel, see new places, and who get their kicks from helping
others. There will be several MDUMC mission trips this year to a wide
variety of locales, such as Guatemala, Honduras, Tennessee, and Oklahoma as well as trips for Rita Recovery in Texas and Louisiana. Adults and youth from 16 years up may
participate on any of the trips. Scholarships are available if needed.
For more information visit the Mission Council table in Friendship Court on Sunday mornings or contact Rev. Susan
Wiley at 713/468-8356, ext. 161 or e-mail susanwiley@mdumc.org. YOU can
make a difference in the world; be part of a 2008 Mission Team!

One Great Day of Service (OGDOS)On March 8th Memorial Drive UMC held its ninth OGDOS (One Great Day of Service). OGDOS is a yearly event in which hundreds of members and friends gather early on a Saturday morning to go out and serve in areas all over Houston. They are commissioned by our senior minister, Dr. Charles Simmons, enjoy a wonderful breakfast provided by our Men of Action, and embark on a day of outreach and mission. Projects are selected throughout the city and on our own campus. It is a wonderful day where all ages come together and work, sweat, play, eat, laugh, and all the while express our love for our neighbors. MDUMC recognizes the fact that a neighbor is anyone who might need our help.
Interested in participating? Contact Rev. Susan Wiley at 713/468-8356 or

Response Teams
Plan as we may for mission and outreach opportunities, unexpected events often determine just where MDUMC members and friends may find themselves. Recent response efforts have included assembling flood buckets, building two tsunami transportable medical clinics, feeding and clothing hundreds of Katrina evacuees, building and transporting shower buildings to hurricane affected areas, and sending numerous construction teams into the Gulf Coast area.
Both men and women participate in these projects. If you’re not the “builder” type, perhaps you could help organize a project, or go along to help provide meals or drive a vehicle. There are many ways to help when disaster strikes and MDUMC tries to respond in a timely and effective manner. For more information, contact Rev. Susan Wiley at 713/468-8356 or
susanwiley@mdumc.org.
