Rev. Bob Johnson

Wednesdays at 10:00-11:30 AM

September 11 – December 11 (not on November 27)

Wesley Hall

$12 for book

“The Genesis Project” is Bob’s term for God’s original will, purpose, and intent ever since “in the beginning” of Genesis 1. It is made manifest at long last through Jesus’ incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension. As people created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) we are to bear and reflect the nature of God as images in ancient temples did. That temple is not a building but all of heaven and earth. That image we are to bear and reflect includes God’s ONENESS, the intimacy, wholeness, connection, and love of Father for Son, Son for Spirit, and Spirit for Father. We are to bear and reflect this ONENESS in four key relationships – with God, others, creation, and even self. When we experience this ONENESS, thus living out Jesus’ prayer in John 17, we experience what God has always wanted for us. In the forgiveness offered in our justification – a right relationship of ONENESS with God -- and the sanctification – inward change – made possible by the risen Christ, we experience the undoing of the corrosion and corruption in all four key relationships of the sin which was introduced in Genesis 3 and which then spread like a virus through all of humankind. We experience life on earth as it is in heaven, and we experience it now, in this life, in this body, individually and as communities of Christ followers.

Living at MDUMC

You belong and we believe there is a place for you to find community at MDUMC.

We hope you take time to consider the ways that finding community within a Home Group, lifestyle group, or care group can make a difference in your life! We are meant to live life and grow in faith together. There are many opportunities in our midst to deepen and strengthen our lives with the hope that we will all become better disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Opportunities for living at MDUMC include Home Groups - an opportunity to meet weekly and share life with others, lifestyle groups for men, women, older adults, singles, and more. Part of living in community means caring for and supporting one another in a variety of ways, so Care Groups are also available and meet consistently throughout the week.

Giving at MDUMC

We contribute to the mission and ministry of the church because it is a direct response to what God has done in Jesus Christ for all of us. God calls us to be Christ for the world, and the primary way in which we do that is through the work of the church both locally and across the world. The generosity of members is required to achieve what we have been called to do.

We believe that learning how to share time is an important component of discipleship. All are encouraged to give of their time through countless opportunities to serve within MDUMC and in the community. All the ministries that enable MDUMC to better serve God and neighbor, here and around the world, are made possible by dedicated volunteers.

Each week there is a time for tithes and offerings during both worship services. We also offer online options and text giving, including automated giving for those who would prefer to use a credit card. As you look through this guide, you’ll find a list of current opportunities as well as information about how to give of your financial resources. We’re thankful for your generosity!

Serving AT MDUMC

There are many ways for you to serve locally and globally. Some as simple as just showing up once and others that are ongoing and help support long-term partnerships.

Take your first step in serving by volunteering to serve one time and trying out different serving areas. Volunteers are then encouraged to make a lasting impact within our community by going deeper in service through missions. Build relationships by serving in an ongoing opportunity, as a leader, or as a member of councils such as Global Missions, Local Serving, and Community Grant Assistance.
