THE REFUGE FUNDRAISER

On Thursday February 8th, The Refuge proudly celebrated its 20th birthday! What began as a “what if?” vision in the early 2000s culminated in the development of a truly innovative ministry space for students throughout west Houston and beyond. The Refuge truly embodies its name; it is a place where people find refuge from life’s craziness and enjoy authentic, life-giving experiences. It’s a safe and welcoming gathering space for hundreds of students. And, of course, it’s the birthplace of the Canesadilla.

While MDUMC’s youth ministry still calls The Refuge home, these days all sorts of vibrant ministries share The Refuge on a regular basis to create space for God to move in people’s lives. So, you can probably imagine that after twenty years, The Refuge is beginning to show its age. Of course, we do our very best to be good stewards of church resources, often finding “duct tape and chewing gum” solutions to various challenges. Thankfully, the time has come to make several considerable investments to improve The Refuge and ensure its longevity for decades to come. New flooring in the game room and updated furniture are already underway and improved audio/visual technology, better outdoor lighting, a fresh coat of paint, and other exciting updates are on the list as well.

For twenty years, The Refuge has served our community in amazing ways. We’re grateful that The Refuge has built a reputation as a meaningful space for thousands of families. If The Refuge holds a special place in your family’s heart, we hope you’ll consider helping us make the necessary improvements to continue serving our community in the best ways possible.
