Walk to Emmaus: A Journey with Christ

While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them. - Luke 24:15

The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to us through other believers. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in our homes, churches, communities and places of work.

MDUMC has over 100 people who have participated and about 40 people who meet weekly in small groups to talk about their spiritual life. Countless members have served in many of the Emmaus activities over many years. If you are interested, please contact Vicky Harris.

Eastern Christian Churches

The First Council of Ephesus in 431, deposed Nestorius, the Bishop in Constantinople, and for the next 1,000 years, the Nestorian Church and the Jacobites would be largest and most coherent part of Christianity. Then the crusades, the Turks, the Mongols and Islam would bring down the eastern Christian churches, and today few people know anything about this very colorful, vibrant, devout part of Christian heritage. This course will look at the Nestorians (The Eastern Syriac Church) and the Jacobites (The Western Syriac Church) which were such a big part of what Christianity originally was.
